Attention Cartoonists: Your Insights Are Needed!
Participate in the Most Comprehensive Survey of Political Cartoonists’ Online Experiences
This is the largest survey ever conducted on political cartoonists’ online experiences. The survey covers how and where you post your work, whether you have been censored, and how often you feel insulted or threatened by other users.
It is available in multiple languages:
- English (URL)
- Spanish (URL)
- French (URL)
- Arabic (URL)
If you don’t speak these languages, we suggest using a translation tool, or reach out to us at info@forhum.org for assistance.
The survey consists of generic, close-ended questions, and no detailed description will be required.
The most important part? Not only should you take the survey, share it with every political cartoonist you know! The more voices we gather, the stronger the impact.
The survey is open until April 30th, 2025

This study is led by Forum for Humor & the Law (FORHUM) and Columbia Global Freedom of Expression. The results will form the basis of a report by Cartooning for Peace, Cartoonists Rights and their partners, to be published within the next twelve months.
This report aims to highlight the prevalence of issues such as censorship, abuse, and security threats, and will serve as a credible advocacy tool for political cartoonists, offering evidence-based recommendations to social media platforms, lawmakers, and other stakeholders.
Forum for Humor & the Law is founded and directed by Dr. Alberto Godioli (University of Groningen) and Prof. Laura Little (Temple University). Its mission is to serve as a platform for practicing lawyers, legal and humor scholars, artists, and others interested in the multiform relationship between humor, freedom of expression, and the law.
Columbia Global Freedom of Expression, founded in 2014 by Lee C. Bollinger, President Emeritus and Seth Low Professor at Columbia University, brings together international experts and activists with the University’s community to provide quick, easy, and reliable access to the best national and international standards to protect free expression as well as to highlight legal developments in international and national courts on the most sensitive issues for the defense of freedom of expression.

100% Anonymous & Secure: Your responses will be completely anonymous and will be held on a secure data drive at the University of Groningen and only accessible by the two lead researchers: Dr. Alberto Godioli (University of Groningen) and Dr. Ana Pedrazzini (CONICET Argentina).
All answers will be aggregated and anonymized before being shared with Cartooning for Peace and Cartoonists Rights, allowing you to respond openly and honestly.
At the end of the survey, you will have the option to provide your email for a short follow-up interview. Your email will never be linked to your responses and will be deleted by April 2026. It will not be shared with any third parties. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting info@forhum.org.

Participation is voluntary. If you choose not to participate, you do not need to provide any explanation, and there will be no negative consequences. You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time before submitting the survey.
