The Recent Case of Jineth Bedoya Lima vs. Colombia: The Emblematic Case of International Law in the Fight Against Impunity for Crimes Against Female Journalists & its Global Impact

  • 1:00pm-2:00pm ET
  • Online Event

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) issued a historic ruling in the case of journalist Jineth Bedoya Lima against Colombia. It is the first time the Court analyzes the use of sexual violence as a form of silencing and control against a woman journalist in the context of the Colombian armed conflict.

The conversation turns on the impacts of the sentence on female journalists and on journalism. What kind of challenges were found during the litigation? How can we understand this sentence in other contexts? What is the global importance of the case for the protection of journalists?
