Irene Khan is the former Director-General of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), the only inter-governmental organization exclusively devoted to advancing the rule of law. An international thought leader on human rights, gender and social justice issues, Ms. Khan was Secretary General of Amnesty International from 2001 – 2009. Prior to that, she served with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees for 21 years at headquarters and in various field operations. Ms. Khan is a member of the World Bank’s Advisory Council on Gender and Development. She sits on the boards of several international human rights and development organizations. She is a member of the Advisory Council of the Columbia Global Policy Initiative and sits on the jury of the Columbia University Global Freedom of Expression Award.
