Amr Gharbeia is interested in the juncture between technology, politics and the law. Since 2004, he  has helped communities and civil society use ICT for social change. During his different roles in the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, he has written and advocated policies covering the areas of telecommunication regulation, freedom of information, privacy and so-called cyber crime. He is also a former staff member of Amnesty International. Gharbeia has been pursuing a degree in science and technology studies, focusing on resilience and use of appropriate technologies in autonomous housing.
