Center for Law and Democracy

The Center for Law and Democracy’s mission is to promote and protect fundamental human rights, including the rights to freedom of expression and access to information. Its “Legal Work” section contains in-depth legal examination of relevant national legislations and the organization’s legislative proposals. Under “Understanding Democracy Rights,” one can find a selection of national laws on freedom of expression and access to information.

Committee to Protect Journalists

The Committee to Protect Journalists promotes press freedom worldwide and protects the rights of journalists. Its’ “Data and Research” contains comprehensive collection of violations of press freedom, including detailed records of journalists killed or imprisoned. Under “Countries and Regions” page, the site provides access to worldwide news and reports on press freedom. The site’s “Special Reports and Publications,” located under “News & Analysis,” offers country-specific reports and information, searchable by year.

Freedom House is an independent watchdog organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of fundamental human rights, including the freedom of expression. The site provides access to the organization’s research, advocacy works, and programs on various issues, including the freedom of expression. Under “Issues” page, one can find recent developments, reports, and studies published by the organization on freedom of expression, access to Internet, and media freedom.

Freedominfo.org

Freedominfo.org seeks to promote the global freedom of information. Its site provides access to international, regional, and national documents on the right to information. Under “Country Info” page, relevant reports and documents, including freedom of information laws can be searched by region and country. The site’s “Resources” page also offers a comprehensive resource guide on freedom of information and transparency.

Freedom of Information Advocates Network

The Freedom of Information Advocates Network is network of organizations and individuals working to promote the right of access to information. Full access to the archives of the organization requires membership subscription. The site’s “Resources” provides free access to various publications, model laws, training materials, and other documents related to the rights of access to information.

Global Voices Advocacy

Global Voices Advocacy is a project of Global Voices Online. They are a global network of bloggers and online activists dedicated to protecting freedom of expression and free access to information online. They report on threats to online speech, share tactics for defending the work and words of netizens, and support efforts to improve internet policy and practice worldwide.

Human Rights Information and Documentation Systems (HURIDOCS)

The Human Rights Information and Documentation Systems (HURIDOCS) is a non-governmental organization involved in providing documentation techniques, monitoring methods, information management systems, and technologies in the defense of human rights. The organization’s site provides access to a wealth of training materials, tools and techniques for monitoring and documenting human rights violations. It also provides manuals on media monitoring, information scanning and intelligence for human rights NGOs.

Internet and Jurisdiction Project

The Internet and Jurisdiction Project addresses issues surrounding access to Internet in conjunction with geographically defined national jurisdictions. Under “Observatory” page, the Project provides free access to its monthly newsletters on various issues and events related to digital access to information.

Media Legal Defence Initiative

The Media Legal Defence Initiative is a non-governmental organization with mission to protect press freedom by assisting journalists, bloggers, and independent media outlets around the world in defending their rights. Under “Our Work,” the site provides access to cases, country reports, and issues related to press freedom and the rights of journalists.

Share Foundation

 The Share Foundation is a non-profit organization with the goal of promoting digital rights, government transparency, and free speech. Under “Contents,” the Foundation provides access to news, blogs, expert discussions, and publications on various topics related to freedom of expression.

Share Lab is the latest addition to the Share Foundation – an investigative data lab for researching invisible architecture of the Web and better understanding of privacy-related risks, network neutrality and security threats. The research results are presented in forms of maps, infographics and illustrations to make them more understandable to the general public. Share tech team performed the research using various remote sensing and network analysis tools, as well as data produced by hardware or applications.
