Portia Karegeya
Portia Karegeya earned a postgraduate LL.B. degree from the University of Cape Town in 2011, where she also graduated with a Bachelor of Economics and Law. In 2013, Karegeya obtained a Master of Laws from McGill University and from 2014-2015 she was a Sonke Health and Human Rights fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she also received an LLM (2014) in Public Interest Law and Policy. Her primary academic focus has been pharmaceutical patents and access to affordable medicines. Most recently her work has focused on Gender, HIV/AIDS and Ebola. However she has also worked in the field of Freedom of Expression and Information advocacy. She is committed to the ideals of human rights and social justice and ultimately plans to pursue these ideals through a career in public interest and human rights law.
