Sofia is a PhD candidate at the University of Perugia, Department of Political Science: her research explores the relationship between anti-terror laws and media systems. She holds a master degree in Law from the University of Trento (Italy), with a master thesis on the national security-related limitations to free expression in Italy and Turkey.

She collaborated with the Italian think tank Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso Transeuropa (OBCT) in the realm of the ECPMF project (European Centre for Press and Media Pluralism).

She studied in Istanbul at Bilgi and Yeditepe University, specializing in the field of criminal and media law. In Istanbul, she worked for the IKV Foundation (Economic Development Foundation), which focuses on Turkish-European relations, researching in the field of freedom of expression.
